Port Angeles, WA - Judith Ann Arnold Scheibel

Aug. 19th, 1942 - June 13, 2026

My Mom Judi was born in Burbank, California to my Grandparents Arthur and Winifred Arnold in a little suburban house down the street from her elementary school and lifelong friend Donna. Many of her deepest friendships were established here in this neighborhood and Burbank schools. Her Burbank High friends still meet at the original Bob's Big Boy in Toluca Lake, CA. They are still very devoted friends to this day and some in eternity.

She had one older sister, Barbara Joan Born. They were very close. Although the younger sister; Judi cared for Barbara in her last years until her death in 2022. Barbara had a difficult life and struggles, but Judi was always there for her. My Mom never gave up on family. She was true-blue and showed the love of Christ to all.

In high school, she responded to the pealing church-bells of the Presbyterian Church down the street, was baptized, and learned of Christ, His work and His redemption. Soon afterward, she met and married my Daddy, Edward Alexander Scheibel on April 1st 1966. Yes, they married on April Fools Day! She joined his family at their Lutheran church in Burbank and then 1st Lutheran Church in San Fernando. She later attended Prince of Peace Lutheran Church in Thousand Oaks, CA., St. Paul's Lutheran Church in North Hollywood, CA., and recently St. Matthews Lutheran Church in Port Angeles, WA. She served the Lord through many ministries including, Sunday School, Choir, and many areas in hospitality and small acts of service to brothers and sisters personally. She was faithful to the friendships she made at church and to her beloved Pastors and their families. She was fully devoted to worship and God's Word, coming regularly to church even after the debilitating effects of strokes and a broken hip. She was there. Her faith compelled her to her Father's house and to His praise.

In college, she attended California State University of Northridge (CSUN) and earned her Bachelors' degree in Childhood Education, becoming a teacher in the Simi Unified School District. She was an engaged and thoughtful teacher for over 33 years. 29 of those years were spent at Sycamore Elementary School in Simi Valley. She was beloved and admired by generations of school children and honored by her fellow teachers and administrators. Rarely could you go into any store in Simi Valley unless you heard a child, teen, or grown adult shout out, "Hi Mrs. Scheibel!"

"Mamoo" as we called her, enjoyed her retirement years dedicated to her beloved L.A. Dodgers, working in her garden, and caring for her grandchildren Kody Smith, Noah Smith, Jesse Norwalt, Hannah Rivera, Joshua Rivera, Anna Norwalt, Benjamin Rivera, Brianna Rivera, Deanna Rivera, and Yulianna Rivera: ten in all. She has Seven Great-Grandchildren and one on the way. She was a substitute teacher at St. Paul's Private School in North Hollywood and a thoughtful tutor for friends like Sylvia from Peru who wanted to talk better English. She helped adult challenged students in her community and even taught her Physical Therapists' children after one of her strokes! She loved Dodger games, the Hollywood Bowl, Glendale Center Theater, and Bob's Big Boy.

Judi/Mamoo was a servant, straight talker, and a peacemaker. Her dying wish was for her daughters to be reunited. Because of the saving work of Christ, even that goal will be honored someday in His kingdom. Please pray for her surviving daughters Christina Rivera and Katie Norwalt and their families. She is preceded in death by her parents, husband, sister, and countless friends. She cared for them all and now she has found her rest.
