Anne Marie Bowers Sullivan-Myers Obituary

Simi Valley, California - Anne Marie Bowers Sullivan-Myers, 88, passed away peacefully among family members, on May 6, 2026, in Simi Valley, California. Born on October 5, 1937, in Cleveland, Ohio, Anne grew up in nearby Wickliffe, where she graduated from Wickliffe High School. She earned a BA from Ohio University in 1960 and later pursued advanced degrees at California State University, Northridge, earning M.A.s in 1973 and 1991.

Anne began her career as an actress, performing in theaters across Cape Cod, New York, and New Jersey. She later found her true calling as an educator, teaching English and drama in New Jersey, Massachusetts, and Ohio before settling in California in 1968. In 1972, she moved to Simi Valley with her daughter Stacy and began teaching at Royal High School. Anne quickly became a beloved figure at Royal, inspiring students as an English teacher, and as advisor to an award-winning yearbook staff, as well as the class of 1984. She also served as the English department chairperson and contributed to several Simi Valley Unified School District advisory committees.

After retiring from Royal High School in 1990, Anne continued teaching part-time at Moorpark College, Pierce College, and CSUN until her full retirement in 2000.

Anne is survived by her husband of forty years, Craig Myers; daughter Stacy Sullivan; stepchildren Andrea, Christopher, and Russell Myers; grandchildren Ava and Jack Graves, and Cole Myers. She was predeceased by her parents Edward Jerome Bowers and Bertha "Jerry" Hunter; brother Edward "Eddy" Bowers; sister Dixie Lee Szolek; and ex-husband James J. Sullivan.

Anne loved theater, world travel, reading, sewing, and participating in community theater. Between marriages to two men fortunate to have shared parts of their lives with her, she was a devoted single mother. Anne passed on her passion for theater to her daughter, Stacy, and traveled widely with her across America and to far-flung destinations in Europe, Asia, the South Pacific, and Australia. In her later years, she embraced her cherished role as "Grammie Annie," devoting herself to loving and sharing her wit and wisdom with her grandchildren. Her legacy of inspiration and dedication to family, friends, students, and colleagues will live on in their hearts.

Having fully embraced her life as a teacher, Anne planned years ago that her teaching should go on beyond her passing and donated her body to the UCLA School of Medicine. Her family is planning private memorial celebration.
